Obituary of Charles Robert Vander Haar

Charlie was born January 5, 1954 in Abington, PA to Robert and Jean Vander Haar. He graduated from Watauga High School in 1971. Though raised in Pennsylvania he remained in Boone the rest of his life following high school. His career included working at TRW, followed by a long career as a long haul truck driver for Schneider and lastly for the NCDOT in Watauga County before retiring. Over the years Charlie enjoyed the outdoors with hiking, mountain biking and camping. He loved working on his antique VW bug and pick-up trucks, his pet cats, his various collections and crossword puzzles. Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl Vander Haar and older brother James William Vander Haar. He is survived by his mother Jean Marie Pavlik Vander Haar of Boone, sisters Katherine Farmer (Monroe) of Clifton Forge, VA, and Kristine Welborn (David) of Boone; his sister-in-law Barbara Vander Haar of Lynchburg, VA; and six nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service was held January 15, 2023.
