I thought I had posted already, but I think I was waiting for the right words. I don’t think there are any, except that Alan was a good guy who left us too soon. And the world is a better place for him having lived.

Oh Margot, I just heard about Alan. I’m so, so sorry. I loved talking to both of you when I met you in the bookstore or around town; you always made me feel like you were happy to see me. I thought the two of you had such a beautiful relationship. I know Alan was fighting hard to stay here, but I hope it’s some comfort to you that he can rest now. I know you miss him. He was a good, kind man and I know he was a wonderful son. My sympathies to you and your family.

It's incredibly difficult to comprehend a world without my sweet, funny cousin in it. I hope I can do his memory justice living by the example he set- always leading with humor, kindness, generosity, and love.

Could not have asked for a kinder, more generous and loving Uncle to our children. He will be missed so very much.

Alan, I will miss talking basketball with you and checking your brackets in the NCAA tournament pool every year. Your after-Halloween brownies with all the leftover candy in them were the best, and I know your Mom will miss all those great meals you made. You were an inspiration to many young runners and I know you are inspiring heavenly runners now.

Margot,
I am sorry he has gone, that he struggled so much with the cancer. I remember him helping me with my boxes at the box crusher, saying Good Morning as he and John Kirby would be coming in to work. Always a sweet smile. Praying for you as you go forward. God Bless you and give your peace.

When Grancy would baby sit Samantha, most times when I came to pick her up, Alan would be on the floor playing some game with her. He loved all kids and they loved him. He was a kind and gentle soul that will be missed by all who knew him. God be with you Margot. Much love, Shelia and Jim
