Barbara Mae Lawrence, 78, a native of West Jefferson and former resident of Boone, passed from this life on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Senior Suites of Urbandale, Iowa.
Barbara was born November 8, 1938 in West Jefferson, NC to Fred and Edna (Waugh) Lawrence. She was a graduate of Mars Hill College and the Medical College of Virginia. Barbara worked as a Registered Nurse specializing in pediatric care. She cared deeply for all children, the natural world, and her community - exemplified by her Christ-like service to others throughout her life. Barbara was an active member of St. Elizabeths parish for over four decades. She is remembered as an extremely loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend.
Survivors include her sons: Christopher (Lisa) Marchese of Urbandale, IA; Matthew (Amanda) Marchese of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Pax & Noah Marchese and Jocelyn & Logan Marchese; sisters: Betty Pendergraft and Earlene Barker of West Jefferson, NC.
A memorial service will be held at St. Elizabeth of the Hill Country in Boone, North Carolina on November 4th, 2017 at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Cancer Society (at memorial pages in her name).
