Rev. Archie R. Clawson, age 80, of Rainbow Trail, Boone, went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning, October 9, 2008 at his home. He was born February 29, 1928 in Watauga County to Willie and Beulah Culler Clawson. Rev. Clawson was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired US mail carrier. He was a member of Doe Ridge Baptist Church and pastored several churches in Ashe and Watauga Counties.
Rev. Clawson is survived by; his wife, Irene Clawson, three daughters, Dianne Brown and husband Eddie of Boone, Donna Vannoy and husband David of Palm Coast, Florida and Denise Critcher and husband Roger of Deep Gap, one step-son, Junior Shore and wife Emmie of Lenoir, six grandchildren, Matthew Vannoy and wife Jennifer and Samuel Vannoy and wife Ashley, all of Palm Coast, Florida, Addie, Kristina, Amanda and Andrew Critcher, all of Deep Gap, five step-grandchildren, Caroline, Emerie, and Rosie Shore, all of Lenoir, Jason Brown of Boone and Leah Brown Sloey of Orlando, Florida, two great-grandchildren William and Sofia Vannoy of Palm Coast, Florida, four brothers, Doyle Clawson and wife Janice of Stanley, Robert Clawson and wife Betty of Morganton, Bill Clawson and wife Betty of Boone and Dennis Clawson of Dallas, and three sisters, Mary Catherine Yokeley and husband Bob of Wallburg, Polly Combs and husband Paul of Boone and Sue Gurley and husband Steve of Lincolnton. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Greene Clawson, one brother, Dean Clawson and one sister, Dare Hardy.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Meat Camp Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Arvil Hardy. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 o'clock. Military graveside rites and burial will follow in the Meat Camp Baptist Church Cemetery.
