Obituary of LeRoy Penley

LeRoy Penley, age 67, of Dobson and a native and former resident of the Rich Mountain Community, died Friday morning, September 19, 2008 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem. He was born December 2, 1940 in Watauga County to William Paul and Arbazennia Belle Bryan Penley. LeRoy was of the Christian faith. He was formerly employed as a dye technician at Armtex in Mt. Airy. He served his basic training for the U.S. Army in Fort Jackson, SC.
Mr. Penley is survived by; five brothers, William Frank Penley of Morganton, William Paul Penley, Jr. of White Plains, Billy Penley of Mt. Airy and Daniel Penley and Harold Penley, both of Boone, seven sisters, Eva Key of Pisgah Forest, Faye Allen of Stacy, Edna McNeir of Davidson, Michigan, Shirley Hutchens of East Bend, Geraldine Gibbons of Shallotte, Sue Billings of Mayodan and Lillie Williams of Union Grove. A number of nieces, nephews, cousins and honorable mention, Wayne Bullin, LeRoy's best friend also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Parson and one brother, Burl Penley.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Rich Mountain Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Bobby Billings and Rev. James Hagaman. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 o'clock. Burial will follow in the Culler Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Culler Cemetery Fund, in care of Rich Mountain Baptist Church.
