William Earl Clay, 96, of Wilkesboro passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Avante of Wilkesboro.
Mr. Clay was born in Baileysville, West Virginia, on August 18, 1920, to James Edward Clay and Blonnie Cook Clay. His family moved to Boone, NC in 1934.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Adine Otto Clay; three brothers--Harry Eugene Clay, James Edward (Ed) Clay, Jr., Kenneth Bruce Clay; and one sister, Gail B. Clay.
He is survived by one sister, Virginia Clay Farthing, of Wilkesboro, NC, and two sisters-in-law--Lorene Turpin Clay, Greenville, SC, and Helen Caudill Clay, Brandon, Florida. He is also survived by two nieces--Zana Clay Turner and Carol Clay Reid--and five nephews--Larry Farthing, Harry Farthing, James Clay, Bill Clay, and Kenny Clay--and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Clay graduated in 1942 from Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone, NC, and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a Mason and a member of Scottish Rite and Habibi Shrine. He was a retired shipping agent with Clay Shipping Co., Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Services for Mr. William Earl Clay will be private.
