Obituary of Robert Bentley

Robert R. Bentley, age 86, of Hwy 105 South, passed away Tuesday evening, September 27, 2016 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Geneva Anderson Bentley. Born January 22, 1930 in Watauga County, he was a son of Roby and Ollie Bentley. Robert was a member of Shulls Mills Baptist Church. He was a heavy equipment operator for more than 50 years. After retirement, he enjoyed building bird houses, gardening and sitting on his porch with family and friends. He is survived by his children, Debra Aldridge and husband, Chip, of Foscoe and Dexter Bentley and wife, Glenda, of Vilas; sisters, Katie Shore and husband, Joe, Brenda Cornett and husband, R.A.; brothers, Sam Bentley and wife, Betty, Ned Bentley and wife, Wanda, and Bill Bentley and wife, Helen; brothers-in-law, J.C. Anderson and wife, Betty, Franklin Cole and J. B. Greene. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He is also preceded in death by sisters, Maggie Hicks, Earlene Lail, Pauline Townsend and Mary Ann Bentley, and brothers, Lewis and Reed Bentley. Funeral services for Mr. Rob Bentley will be conducted Sunday afternoon, October 2, at 3 o�clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Chad Cole. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:30 until 3 o�clock, prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Graveside services will follow at the Shull Cemetery. The family respectfully requests no food.
