Mr. William Howard Miller, age 88, of Linville Creek Road, Vilas, died Wednesday afternoon, September 10, 2008 at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation. Born November 19, 1919 to the late Monroe Cottrell and Estella Mae White Miller in Watauga County, Mr. Howard had his own blacksmith shop where he designed and constructed much of the equipment he used on the farm he tended. He attended Boone Church of Christ. Surviving are three sisters; Wilma Greene of Vilas, Virginia Yates of Boone, and Rena Goodman and husband Jack of Vilas, four brothers; Jack Miller of Hudson, Bill Miller and wife Eva Nell and Lewis Miller and wife Esther all of Vilas and Kermit Miller and wife Willie of Hudson, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Estella Mae White and Monroe Cottrell Miller, one sister, Georgia M. Hayes, one sister-in-law, Ruth May Miller and three brothers-in-law, Ernest Hayes, Fred Greene and Conley Yates. Mr. Howard had his own blacksmith ship where he designed and constructed much of the equipment he used on the farm he tended. Funeral services for Mr. William Howard Miller will be conducted Saturday, September 13, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Elliott Hayes, Minister Lance Hostetter and Deacon Park Terrell. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. The family respectfully requests no food.
