Ann Elizabeth Norris Berger, 91, was born in Boone, North Carolina. She retired to Lawndale, NC. She died Sunday, July 24, 2016 in Howell, Michigan, where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law for the past eight years.
Ann had a passion for life and learning her whole life and a spirit of competitiveness that drove her to excellence. She was a devoted Lutheran and member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Shelby, NC. She had many hobbies that included quilting, sewing, book clubs, cooking, cross stitch, gardening, canning and reading. She was an avid collector of pottery and Precious Moments figurines.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband of more than 62 years, Edgar Lee Berger, five sisters, Lucy, Pearl, Mary, Louise and Ruth; three brothers, Elwin, Ralph, and David. She is survived by her two siblings, John and Carolyn; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Lee and Bob Patzer of Howell, Mich.; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Carol Berger of Lawndale; four grandchildren, Emily Berger, August Elizabeth Thomas, Tiffany Patzer and Shane Patzer and wife, Marcy; and three great-grand-children, Riley Patzer, Breanna Patzer and Sophia Patzer. She is, also, survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
She was a kind, loving, compassionate and gentle soul who had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Her twinkling blue eyes would light up a room.
Funeral services for Ann Norris Berger will be conducted on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by The Reverend Christina Auch. The family will receive family and friends prior to the service from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Old Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Boone, NC.
