Mr. Scottie Lee �Scott� Matheson, 55, of 558 Tom Ward Rd. Sugar Grove, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday evening, May 28, 2016 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC. Scott was born in Watauga County on March 23, 1961 to Archie Lee and Lennis Ward Matheson .
Scott was employed for many years by Avery County Rental as a service technician. He was a Gold Certified Stihl Technician. He spent two decades as a volunteer fireman Cove Creek and Shawneehaw Volunteer Fire Departments. Scott was a kind and generous man who loved working with and helping people. He loved to fish and go camping. He lived his life to the fullest. Scott enjoyed restoring old tractors and machinery, especially with his son-in-law. His pride and joy was his two precious grandsons. His love for his wife and daughter was unconditional. Scott will always be remembered as an amazing and loving husband, son, brother, grandfather, and friend to many.
Scott is survived by his wife, Debbie Norris Matheson, one daughter, Holly Moore and Husband Terry of Vilas, two grandsons, Nathan Allen Moore and Jacob Lee Moore, his mother, Lennis Ward Matheson of Sugar Grove, one sister Pamela M. Beach and husband Jerry of Vilas, one brother, Everette Matheson and wife Angie of Sugar Grove, his maternal grandmother, Chloe Ward of Sugar Grove, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his father, Archie Lee Matheson, his maternal grandfather, Tom Ward, and his paternal grandparents, Rayner and Gladys Matheson.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o�clock Austin &Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Wynn Greer. Burial will follow in the Ward-Matheson Cemetary. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Cove Creek Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 251, Sugar Grove, NC 28679.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from noon until 2 o�clock at Austin Barnes Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the home at 558 Tom Ward Road in Sugar Grove.
