Mrs. Louiva Edmisten Ward, 96, of Bethel Road, Sugar Grove, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday morning, May 18, 2016.
She was born March 13, 1920 in Sugar Grove, a daughter of the late Marshall Harrison (Edmisten) and Mary Annie Perry Edmisten. Mrs. Ward spent all of her life in Sugar Grove; kept foster children in her home for forty-five years; helped many children and loved them all. She was known for her generosity and loving kindness to all she came in contact with. She loved to cook, garden and farm and was known as the Pansy Lady of Sugar Grove. She was a member of Calvary Baptist church and loved serving the Lord. She was always a great encouragement to those she loved.
Surviving are one son, Gareth Ward and wife Phyllis of Sugar Grove; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Ward of Sugar grove; one daughter Judy Nuckolls and husband David of Roanoke, VA; three grandsons: Keith Ward and wife Tammy of Vilas; Phillip Ward and wife Mildred of Mountain City, TN; William Nuckolls of Roanoke, VA; one granddaughter Alyson Nuckolls of Roanoke, VA: two great grandsons: Travis Ward of Vilas and Charlie Ward and wife Jessie, of Sugar Grove; one great, great granddaughter Grace Elizabeth Ward; two sisters-in-law: Loy Edmisten and Leta Mae Edmisten both of Sugar Grove; one brother-in-law David Ward and wife Unadell of Boone; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Baker Perry Ward; two children Rev. Maurice Ward and Alesia Ward; two sisters: Addie Mae Love and Madeline Bradford; three brothers, George, Baker and John Edmisten.
Funeral services for Mary Louiva Edmisten Ward will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at Bethel Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Burl Greer and Rev. Tim Bunton; burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, at the church, from 1 until 2 o�clock. At other times friends may call at Louiva�s home.
