First Sergeant William Lyle Wilson, 81, of Todd, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2015. Mr. Wilson was born November 14, 1934, in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of Mr. And Mrs. V. R. Wilson.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his bride of 60 years, Joyce, daughters Sandy (Wayne) Hicks, Todd, NC, and Susan (Shannon) Reese, Lenoir, NC, grandchildren, Will (Cassandra) Hicks, Ben Hicks of Todd, NC, Justin (Holli) Reese, USN< Port Orchard, WA, Sarah Reese and Zachary Reese of Lenoir, NC great grandchildren, Kailey Jones, Kason Hicks. Hayden, Lucas, Avery and Jackson Reese. Mr. Wilson is also survived by his older brother, Vern (Dori) Wilson of Houston, TX. In addition he is survived by his faithful fur baby Katie. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Jack L. Wilson.
Mr. Wilson retired from the US Army in 1974 after serving his country for 22 years. Upon retirement from the Army, Mr. Wilson worked for the US Postal Service in Boone from 1974 until his retirement as Postmaster in Deep Gap in 1994.

Funeral services for First Sergeant Retired William Lyle Wilson will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 oclock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Elaine Hall. Burial with military honors will follow in the Bethelview United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 oclock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
