A funeral service for George Myron Howk, 67, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Family will receive friends 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm prior to the service. A graveside service under the care of Austin & Barnes Funeral Home will be conducted Monday, December 21,2015, at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery, Blowing Rock.
Mr. Howk died Tuesday, December 15, 2015. Born in Whitehall, NY, he was the son of the late Myron Howk and Joyce Jones Stannard. After graduating from the University of South Carolina with a major in English History, Mr. Howk was a Program Manager for the SC Department of Health and Human Services. He was well known for being open minded and enthusiastic about any pursuit and encouraged people to try and explore new things. He was always interested in politics and current affairs. He loved golf, played the guitar, loved nature and hiking in the mountains. Mr. Howk was a member of Grace Point Presbyterian Church and associate member of Arbor Dale Presbyterian Church in Banner Elk, NC.
Surviving are his wife, Mary N. Howk; daughter, Megan Howk and Jamie Marler (Hank) of Glens Falls, NY; grandchildren, Tristan, Hayden and Makenna; sister, Vicky Stannard of Fair Haven, VT; and brother, Mark Stannard of Granville, NY.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Matthew Kyle Howk and sister, Joyce Ann Carpenter.
