Glen David Bodenhamer, 97, of Brown�s Chapel Rd., Boone, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at his home. Born September 8, 1918 in Watauga County, he was the son of the late Ike and Martha Bodenhamer. Glen served in the US Navy from July, l944 � January, l946. He was a gunner on a merchant tanker in the Pacific during WWII. Glen was a charter member of Rutherwood Baptist Church and served as a deacon, Sunday School Secretary, van driver and on various committees. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, family, church, and the Rutherwood community. In his early years, Glen worked in a saw mill lumber yard with his father and siblings, and later worked in construction for many years and helped build several offices that still stand in Boone. Even in retirement, he always kept busy enjoying his gardens, moving his lawn and visiting the sick. When his health no longer allowed him to continue doing these things, he enjoyed sitting on his scooter in the driveway waving to those passing by.
Mr. Bodenhamer is survived by his sons, John Bodenhamer and wife, Frankie, of Boone and Bob Bodenhamer and wife, Linda, of Gastonia; grandchildren, Tabitha Bodenhamer Taylor and husband, Brantley, and David Bodenhamer and wife, Brenda, all of Boone; great-grandchildren, Kortney and Wesley Bodenhamer of Mtn. City, TN and Daniel and Hannah Taylor and Dalton Hicks, all of Boone; great-great grandchildren; Sofia and Ryder Bodenhamer of Mtn. City, TN; sister-in-law, Ruby Bodenhamer of Boone; half brothers and sisters, Charles Cook and wife, Marie of Kannapolis, Michael Cook and wife, Barbara, of Gordonsville, VA, Ted Cook and wife, Greta, of Panama Beach, FL, Barbara Leake and husband, Donald, and Wanda Baker, all of Orange, VA, and David and wife, Joyce, of Gordonsville, VA. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Bodenhamer; daughter, Nancy Bodenhamer and siblings, Pearl Dobson, Clyde, Earl, and Claude Bodenhamer; and half-brothers, Jack and Mack Cook.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 21, at 2 PM, at Rutherwood Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Gary Lawrence and Rev. Hebert McCoy. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 until 2 o�clock, prior to services. Military graveside honors, provided by the American Legion Post 130, will follow at Rutherwood Baptist Church Cemetery.
