Obituary of Mike Pendley

James �Mike� Pendley passed away peacefully Monday, November 16, 2015 after a brief but courageous fight with lung cancer. By his side during his final hours was his wife of almost 37 years, Jan. Mike was born in New London, Connecticut in 1958 to Bill and Pat Pendley but moved to Watauga County as a young child. He was a member of Willow Valley Church. He and Jan met as young teenagers and became inseparable soon after. They were married in 1978, and became parents of twins the following year. Their love and dedication to one another through the years was evident to all their family and friends. When not busy at work, Mike and Jan enjoyed traveling to their favorite vacation destination in Mexico. He was an avid horse lover who participated in many community rides and wagon trains. Mike loved Sundays golfing with his brother-in-law Steve and his best friend Tim. He lived for summer visits with his grandkids spent at Tweetsie or the zoo. He was a long time employee of New River Building Supply. Mike will be remembered for his love of sports, his warm smile, and the love he had for his family. Mike is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ford and Leola Hollars and maternal grandparents, David and Ruia Bentley, mother and father in law, Fred and Wilma Winebarger, and his nephew, Jason Norwood. Mike is survived by his wife, Jan, son, Kevin Pendley, daughter, Kristin Baltazar and her husband JD; beloved grandchildren, Jaden and Cameron; father and mother, Bill and Pat Pendley; brother, Rick Pendley and wife Diane; sister, Ann Norwood, sisters in law, Ann Shipman and husband Steve, and Sandy Swift and husband Dana; and a number nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Seby Jones Cancer Center and the dedicated staff or nurses, doctors, and other caregivers for their tireless efforts and dedication to Mike�s care. Memorial services for Mr. Mike Pendley will be conducted Friday morning, November 20th at 11 o�clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Ray Greene and Rev. Gordon Noble. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 o�clock until 8 o�clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the residence, 469 Ward Greene Road, Vilas, NC 28692. The family respectfully asks for no flowers.
