Obituary of Rex Martin Greene

Rex Martin Greene, age 73, of Mountain City, Tennessee, and formerly of Boone, passed away Tuesday morning, November 10, 2015 at Watauga Medical Center. Born July 3, 1942 in Watauga County, he was a son to Burl and Lucille Hayes Greene. Rex was a member of Rutherwood Baptist Church. He retired from the NC Department of Corrections. At the Yadkin Department of Corrections, he taught Math, English and cooking to the prison inmates through a program sponsored by Mitchell Community College. Rex enjoyed spending time with family and friends on the waters of Watauga Lake. He is survived by his wife, Mary Winkler Greene; sons, David Greene and wife, Angela, of Yadkinville and Phillip Greene and wife, Kelly, of Apex; four granddaughters, Olivia and Emma Greene of Yadkinville and Sydney and Mollie Greene of Apex; step-daughters, Tracy Lyerly and husband Richard of Boone, April Tucker and husband, Finley of Lenoir, and Susan Millsaps of Vilas; seven step-grandchildren; Haley, Alex, Allison, Nicci, Heather, Miranda and Michael; sister, Carolyn Stephens and husband, Doug, of Culpeper, VA; and brothers, Tom Greene and wife, Gale and Lynn Greene and wife, Tracey, all of Boone. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Rex was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, November l4th at 2 o�clock, at Rutherwood Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Gary Lawrence and Rev. Jim Norman. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 o�clock, prior to services, at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of Tom Greene, 196 Mustard Field Road, Boone. Memorials may be made to Rutherwood Baptist Church, 142 Don Hayes Road, Boone, NC 28607.
