Obituary of Jane Bassett Holliday

Jane Bassett Holliday, 74, of Lost Branch Road, Zionville, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015 at Watauga Medical Center. Jane was born October 1, 1940 in Wilmington, Delaware to Robert Lowery Holliday, Jr. and Catherine Dill Holliday. Mrs. Holliday attended Mabel United Methodist Church and Boone Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. She served as a board member of Western Watauga Friends of the Library and was a contributing member of Barter Theater in Abington and a member of the Local Writers Group. She designed residential gardens and maintained the Sugar Grove Post Office plantings and was instrumental in designing and building the Memorial Garden at Boone Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Mrs. Holliday was an elected State Representative in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, and was a certified Master Gardener in New Hampshire and North Carolina. Jane was dedicated to environmental conservation. She had extensive knowledge of world historical events and maintained a decades-long interest in current, local, national and global politics. Jane enjoyed teaching and mentoring others of all ages. She was a graduate of Tower High School in Wilmington, DE, and received her Associate Arts Degree from Colby Junior College, New London, NH and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Hampshire in Concord. Mrs. Holliday is survived by her sister, Catherine Holliday Boyce of Escondido, CA; uncles, Colby Dill, Jr. of Jefferson, ME and George Dill of Houston, TX; cousins, Anne Dill of Wiscasset, ME, Lee Gillett of Troy, MI, Colby Dill, III of VA, Robert Dill of Raleigh, NC, David Dill of Middletown, RI, Gretchen Levine of Phoenix, AZ, Peter Dill of The Woodslands, TX, James Dill of Rockland, ME, John Colby Dill of Shrewsbury, NJ, Sandy Loven of Trappe, PA, Nicholas Lester of West Coast, and Jeannette Seale of Charlotte Courthouse, VA. Janes family gratefully acknowledges all friends, including Holly and Don Addis, Herb Cohen, Jose Fumero, Katherine Cornell, Earl and Naomi Isaacs, Mary Kelly, Linda Lonon, Lisa Miller, Mary Sue and Pat Morgan, Alice Naylor and Earl Leclerc, Pat Rusch, Barbara and Harwood Smith, Caroline Thompson, Richard Tidman, Pat Wilkie, Glenn Wing and the doctors, nurses and staff at Carolinas Medical Center and Watauga Medical Center. Memorial services for Jane Bassett Holliday will be conducted Saturday afternoon, September 19th at 1 o�clock at Mabel United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Katherine Cornell. The family will greet friends following the service. Inurnment will be in Bridgewater, MA at a later date.
