Mr. Charles Curtis Hughes, age 79, of Canton, and formerly of Newland, passed away Tuesday morning at Aultman Hospital. (Ohio)
He was born on November 9, 1928 in Newland, NC t the late Jack and Hazel (Oakes) Hughes and lived in the Canton area for 25 years. Charles had worked for Oaks Construction and later retired from Brown Brothers Construction. He was an active member of Freedom Baptist Fellowship in Brewster. He enjoyed mountain trout fishing, hunting, NASCAR, reading and the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers.
Mr. Hughes is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Janeen (Cseak) Hughes; one daughter, Deborah Calloway and husband (Rev.) Dale of Massillon, Ohio; two sons, Terry Curtis Hughes and wife Missy; Jerry Charles Hughes and wife Christine, all of Aiken, SC; three sisters, Pauline Hughes of Newland, Sandra Guinn and husband Jerry of Elk Park; Wanda Carpenter and husband James of Canton, Ohio; one brother, Clyde Hughes of Newland; by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Jack and Hazel (Oakes) Hughes, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rev. Garfield Hughes; one brother, Michael Hughes and by one daughter, Sharon Kay Hughes.
Funeral Services for Charles Curtis Hughes will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 19, at Roaring Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Newland, NC, with his nephew Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Hughes Memorial Cemetery in Roaring Creek, NC.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM prior to services, Saturday, July 19th at Roaring Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Newland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.arnoldlynch.com.
