Obituary of Mildred C. Small

Formerly of 107 Zeb Street, Boone, Mildred passed away peacefully at Life Care Center of Banner Elk on Sunday evening at age 82. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil L. Small; mother, Ferrie Gragg Clawson; father, Lee Clawson; twin sister, Ruth Clawson Lewis; brother-in-law, Bob Lewis; and nephew, Wayne Lewis. She is survived by her babies, her beloved cats: Sadie, Tiger, and Buddy; niece and caregiver Betty Lou Wells and niece Rosalee Norris and husband Melvin, all of Boone; first cousins: Samuel Austin Moretz and wife Carol; Barbara M. Moretz and husband John; and primary caregivers Jerry C. Moretz and wife Nancy, all of Boone, and Garry G. Moretz and wife Bobbie of Petersburg, VA. Mildred retired from TRW after which she worked for some time at Roses and K-Mart. She volunteered for a number of years at Watauga Hunger Coalition and for decades at the Animal Hospital of Boone. Funeral services for Mildred Small will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2pm at Austin and Barnes Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Laura Weant officiating. The body will lie in state and family will received friends from 12:30-2:00. Entombment will be at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens Mausoleum. The family respectfully requests no food or flowers. Memorials may be made to Animal Hospital of Boone, 2773 Highway 105, Boone, NC 28607, who kept and cared for her cats the past 19 months after Mildred was no longer able to stay at home or to the Activities Fund at Life Care Center of Banner Elk, 185 Norwood Hollow Road, Banner Elk, NC 28604, where Mildred resided and received excellent care the past few months.
