Obituary of Maude H. Luttrell

Maude Hollars Luttrell, 93, formerly of Shulls Mills, Road, Boone, passed peacefully on June 28, 2015 at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation surrounded by her family, the wonderful staff of Glenbridge, and special friend and roommate, Juanita Wilson. Born December 25, 1921 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of Cleveland and Hattie Cook Hollars. Maude lived most of her life in the Shull�s Mills community where she and her late husband, Charles, raised their family. A true nature lover, she loved all outdoor activities. Maude never met a stranger and was always there to offer a helping hand anyone in need. Gardening was a major part of her life. She prepared great meals from the bounty of her gardens for family and friends, and made sure no one left her home hungry. She loved her music, especially listening to gospel and country music. The entire Luttrell family knows that she is in a better place in Heaven and offers a special �Thank You� to all our family, friends and caregivers for contributing to her care. Mrs. Luttrell is survived by her children, Judy Church of Taylorsville, Ann Allen of Newton, Rebecca Luttrell of West Jefferson, Kirk Luttrell of Deming, New Mexico, Rick Luttrell and wife, Terri, of Newland, and Jane Poole and husband, Don, of Wake Forest; Fourteen grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Donna Luttrell of Linville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Luttrell; son, James Edward Luttrell; and daughter, Ina Sue Horowitz. Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, July 2, at 7 PM at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ken Harper. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 7 PM, one hour prior to services, at Austin & Barnes.
