Mary Lee Harmon Combs, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and aunt, age 87, of Laurel Creek Road, Sugar Grove, peacefully went to be with the Lord, Thursday, June 25, 2015.
Mary Lee was born in the Laurel Creek community of Watauga County, third child of Garnett and Maude Mast Harmon. Mary Lee was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church and most recently attended Piney Grove Baptist Church on Rominger Road, were she loved to sing and praise the Lord. In 1992, after 22 years of service, Mary Lee retired from Watauga Medical Center where she worked in the housekeeping department. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to books on tape provided by the NC Commission for the Blind, and gospel music.
She is survived by two children: Thomas Raleigh Combs of Sugar Grove and Nancy Mixon and husband Clark of Mountain City, TN; one grandson: Garrett Mixon and wife, Meghan of Zionville and one cherished great-grandson: Abram Roy Mixon; two dear sisters: Addie H. Maynard of Sugar Grove, formerly of Jamestown, NC, and Georgia H. Ward of Sugar Grove; one sister-in-law: Marie Harmon of Vilas; special nieces and nephews: Mary Accetta Trivette and husband Marvin of Banner Elk, Michael Accetta of West Jefferson, Chris Harmon of Vilas, three great-nieces: Stephanie Trivette Platt and husband Josh, Jennifer Dugger and Opal Accetta, two great-nephews: Daniel Accetta and Brandon Trivette and one precious great-great-niece: Aubrey Ann Platt; and, special caregiver and dear friend, Sharon McCurry of Sugar Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ruby Harmon Accetta, one brother, William (Bill) Harmon, two brother-in-laws, Joseph Maynard and Glenn Ward, and great nephew Justin Accetta.
Funeral service for Mary Lee Harmon Combs will conducted at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 28th at Piney Grove Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. David Testerman and Rev. Richard Trivette. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, from 3 until 4 p.m., prior to the service, at the church. Graveside service will follow the 4:00 p.m. service in the Piney Grove Community Cemetery.
