Obituary of Jeanetta Jean F. Hill

Please share a memory of Jeanetta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jeanetta Jean Fields Hill, 81, of Zionville, North Carolina, left her earthly family and went to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. She passed at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, NC, surrounded by her family. Jean was born on November 8, 1933, to S. W. and Faye Fields in Dublin, TX. Although removed from her Texas homeland--swept away by a young and suave Navy pilot, Capt. J.C. Hill--she never lost her love of pecans. She did not, however, like barbecue. She and J.C. settled on a small farm in Zionville, NC, in 1970 to finish raising their family. They retired from the Navy in 1974. Jean loved sports and supporting her boys athletic pursuits while they attended Watauga High School. She was very involved in the community. A member at Mabel UMC, she served as a Sunday school teacher and administrative chairperson for a number of years. Jean enjoyed working with children as a substitute teacher at Mabel Elementary School. She was an active member of the Watauga County Republican Party and worked many elections at the polls. Jean was also a member of Eastern Star. To say Jean enjoyed sports is an understatement. She loved the Dallas Cowboys, UNC Tarheel basketball, Atlanta Braves baseball and tennis. Jean always seemed to be knitting a scarf or blanket, and also enjoyed crochet, sewing, quilting, and upholstery. She took great pleasure playing Bridge at the senior center and sharing her love of cards and games with her grandchildren. There was never a greater fan of George Strait than Jean. She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, the late Captain James Colson J.C. Hill, USN (Ret.); one brother, Chester Fields. She is survived by 2 sisters; Laurie Fields of Humble, TX, and Diana Lynn Fields of Houston, TX; her three sons: Major James Colson Hill, II, USA (Ret.) (Beth) of Aurora, IL; ATC (AW) David A. Hill, USN (Ret.) of Zionville, NC; CWO3 John E. Hill, USN (Ret.) (Sarah) of Zionville, NC; five grandchildren: Georgina Hill Glendon (Matthew) of Augusta, GA; James Colson Hill, III, (Veronica) of Zionville, NC; Hollie Hill of Lebanon, VA; Melanie Ann Hill of Kansas City, MO; and Kala Hill Allen (Brian) of Unicoi, TN; 6 great-grandchildren: Emily, Gideon, Natalie, Elliott, Callie, Shelby. The family will receive friends at 11 oclock on Friday, February 27, 2015, at Mabel United Methodist Church. The funeral will follow at 12 oclock. Rev. Katherine Cornell of Mabel United Methodist Church will be officiating. Interment will follow for immediate family at Mount Lawn Memorial Park.
