Obituary of Ruby H. Oaks

Ruby Hughes Oaks, age 97, of Green Oaks Lane, Newland, died Saturday evening, March 29, 2008 at her home. She was born December 3, 1910 in Avery County to Nathan and Nettie Burleson Hughes. Mrs. Oaks was a housewife, homamaker and second mother to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Roaring Creek People's Church where she formerly served as choir leader and Sunday School Teacher.
Mrs. Oaks is survived by; two daughters, Ruby Dellinger and husband Homer and Kate Thomas and husband Tommy; and two sons, Von Oaks and wife Jean and Dean Oaks and wife Debbie, all of Newland. Seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Taylor Christopher Oaks, an infant son, Herman Edward Oaks, one grandson, David Lee Oaks and two sisters, Zora Greene and Myrtle Jaubill.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Roaring Creek People's Church, officiated by Rev. Chris Nance and Rev. Daniel Nance. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock, one hour prior to services, at the church. Burial will follow in the Hughes Cemetery.
