Obituary of Mabel D. Moretz

Mrs. Mabel Alice Davis Moretz, 104, wife of the late Paul A. Moretz, died on Wednesday afternoon, June 11, 2008, at the Inn at Glenbridge in Boone. She was born in Watauga County on September 19, 1903.
Mrs. Moretz was a homemaker. She made hand-tied canopies for Copenhaver Industries, local Women�s Exchanges, and Carter Canopies. She loved to garden; and she especially loved growing beautiful flowers, which she shared with many. Everyone was welcome in her home.
She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church for more than 80 years. She was named Watauga County Centurion of the Year in 2006 by the Adult Services Coalition.
Survivors include three daughters: Anne M. Dunlap and husband Robert of Lincroft, NJ; Elsie M. Carter and husband Jack of Troutman; and Wilma M. Ragan of Boone, NC. Three sons: Paul B. Moretz and wife Barbara of Southern Pines, NC; Ernest E. Moretz and wife Marie of Churchville, MD; and L. Robert Moretz and wife Sylvia of Troutman, NC. Two daughter-in-laws: Josephine Moretz and Vergie Moretz. Fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and a great-great-grandson also survive.
Mrs. Moretz was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Paul A. Moretz; two sons: Kenneth Y. Moretz and J. Marshall Moretz; an infant daughter, Mary Jean Moretz; a granddaughter, Patsy M. Pearson; a daughter-in-law, Emma K. Moretz; a son-in-law, George C. Ragan, by three brothers, U. J. Davis, John Davis and Fred Holman.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 13, 2008, at 10:00 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church, Big Hill road, Boone, NC officiated by Pastors John Bollinger and Tom Hehenberger. The body will lie in state in the church sanctuary from 9:00 until 10:00 AM. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Bethany Lutheran Church Building Fund OR Cemetery Fund, 1030 Big Hill Road, Boone, NC 28607.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Bill Beason and his Staff and the Staff at The Inn at Glenbridge for their loving care over the past years.
