Obituary of Elmer Spencer Norris

Mr. Elmer Spencer Norris, age 86, of Zionville, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023 at Wilkes Medical Center in North Wilkesboro. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Norris. Born January 12, 1937 in Watauga County, he was the son of Marvin and Ollie Norris. Elmer was a dedicated Christian and loved his church family at Union Baptist Church. He was a great concrete finisher for many years. Elmer was known for growing delicious tomatoes in his garden each year and he loved mowing his yard. He also enjoyed helping with the cows across the road and loved his years tending his horses. His favorite horse Chico was always ready to go when Elmer was ready to ride.
He is survived by his three children, Sharon Keller and husband, Jamie, of Zionville, Sheila Hundley and husband, Elvin, of Boone, and Danny Norris and wife, Diane, of Boone; seven grandchildren, Ashley Jones and husband, Steven, Tylor Keller and wife, Makayla, Zack 'Jack' Keller and wife, Eden, Matthew Boulanger and wife, Stephanie, Melanie Walker and husband, Robbie, Brandon Norris and wife, Leslie, Kayla Norris; eighteen great grandchildren, Gannon, Bannon, Lannon, Dutton, Jones, Kaylynn, Waylon and Paisley Keller, Ford, Lil Mary Keller, Trey, Piper and Hadley Boulanger, Shaylyn and Haydyn Walker, Austyn, Bailey and Makennah Norris and Mackenzie Alderson. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Jim Swift and wife, Jeri of Appling GA, a number of nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, J. B. Fletcher.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Miller and brothers, Earl, Glen, and Dean Norris.
Funeral services for Elmer Norris will be conducted Friday afternoon, June 2, at 12 noon at Union Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Derick Wilson, Rev Vernon Eller and special speaker, Greg Warren. Burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, June 1, from 6 until 8 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
