Alen Stewart Alexander passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on May 29, 2023. He was born in Ashe county on August 5, 1935 to Wake Alexander and Lena Baker Alexander. Alen graduated Healing Springs High School in Crumpler, North Carolina in 1953, after graduation he worked for Phillips Oil until he was drafted into the Army in 1958. He served 18 months in Germany before being honorably discharged in 1960. After retiring from Shell Oil Joann and "Hooch" traveled to all U.S. States except Hawaii. "Hooch's" hobbies were his love for bluegrass music, playing rook and playing pranks on his family and friends, especially teasing young children. At age 40 he was told he would never be able to work again due to being diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis Disease, 7 years later "Hooch" fought through and won his battle and worked until retirement. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Myra Kye Alexander; parents, Wake and Lena Alexander; brothers, Jack and Hugh Alexander. Alen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joann Alexander; brother-in-law and sister-in-law , Scott and Janie Warren of Kingsport, Tennessee; nephew, Kevin Warren of Mooresville, North Carolina and his two children Emily and Matthew Warren; niece, Cindy and her husband, Mike Brinkley of Charlotte and their children Olivia and Sophia Brinkley. Celebration of life services will be held June 10, 2023 at West Jefferson United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm with services beginning at 2:00pm and internment at the church columbarium to follow. The family respectfully requests no food or flowers.
