I had the great good fortune to work with Betty on a university journal where she set the standard for managing editors: she was brilliant, thoughtful, and hard-working. Her integrity and thoroughness were of a kind that would restore anyone's faith in human beings (if that's what you needed)! After she retired, she continued to offer invaluable advice and support to me. I'll always remember sitting in her airy, peaceful home, having visited with all the farm animals, where I was made to feel the same kind of welcome I know she shared with so many. We had a long range plan to get our Scotch collies together. My memories of her will always be a blessing.

Remembering Betty and Walton opening up their beautiful home for a family reunion a few years ago. She greeted us with her beautiful smile and as always the perfect hostess, making sure everyone had food and a cold drink. We visited
her fairy garden and said hello to all the farm animals. Even during our last visit in March she still greeted us with that beautiful smile even though she was in pain. Going back to the mountains without you there will never be the same Betty, but you would tell us not to grieve but to let you go. We can't do that yet. Your husband, three beautiful daughters, son in law and grandson soon to arrive will keep your legacy and memories alive. So until we meet in heaven you will be forever in our hearts. Love you Betty. Aunt Jerri and Uncle Jim.

I met Betty on two occasions when I visited my college friend Walt in Boone. She was a very open hearted, warm person and I found an immediate connection to her. I wish all the family much strength to get through this time. May she live forever in your hearts!

I knew Betty as Carolina's mom. I knew she also had two other beautiful daughters, that she loved just as much and that she was just as proud of.
She hosted an amazing Prom dinner in her her home that included my daughter, Tory in the large group. Everything was arranged beautifully and smelled delightful. It was a very memorable evening for all involved.
I also knew her as Pacer mom with two of my other daughters, Anna and Erin. I counted myself very lucky when I got to prepare a meal with Betty. I knew it would turn out beautifully.
I remember sitting with her at a large gathering in the WHS gym, perhaps for Senior awards and she told me about her struggles with cancer. My heart ached for her and her family. I was so grateful she was seeing her youngest daughter graduate from high school.
I loved her writing style in her Facebook posts about farm life and family memories, things that that I could identify with so well, living on a farm myself.
I really only sent a small amount of time with Betty but I felt she was a friend. My heart aches for your sadness in losing this beautiful soul but I look forward to the day that you can all be together again.

So sad to learn of your loss. Clearly the passing of a beautiful soul. The loss of a vital, precious partner and comfort to three vibrant young women and countless other creatures of God. A life that added to the beauty, joy, and blessings of this world. She will be greatly missed.

Betty has always been such a beautiful blessing in my life. She had such a lust for life and love for nature and all God's creatures! She loved others with a strong love! She leaves such an amazing legacy behind in her daughters: Olivia, Mary Ellis, and Carolina! My love and prayers are send to Walton and their girls, and her sister Ann and her whole family.

From the Mississippi Tom Lee family:
Walton my friend, you and Betty hold a special place in our hearts. Her beautiful unique journey has ended on our side of the Great Divide, but you and the girls are still on your journeys through this life. May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ bring you supernatural peace and wisdom as your journeys continue.
