He leaves behind his wife, Elisabeth , his children Nioucha (Chris), Isabelle (26) and Sebastien (23), Simia, Anouch (18), Afchine (Haley), Hattie (14), and four grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Mohammad Ali and his mother, Sedigheh, his brother Houchang and his nephew Anouche. Bijan was born in Sari, Iran, near the Caspian Sea. He grew up in Tehran, yet at the age of 12 went to boarding school in Lausanne, Switzerland. He studied medicine there, and married Elisabeth on February 6, 1965 and together they raised three children, Niocha, Simia and Afchine, mostly in the United States and Iran, and many summers in Switzerland. He had two sisters, Elaheh, Souna, and two brothers Babak, and the late Houchang. He was an orthopedic surgeon in Tehran and Kentucky, and was an extremely devoted doctor to the care of his patients. He was a caring father and was very fond of his friends. His passions were classical music (Brahms and Bach among his favorites). He played the cello too. He loved cooking, skiing, painting and literature (Balzac and Marcel Proust as favorites). He loved mountains and lakes, leading him to move upon retirement to Adirondack, New York, where he lived on Lake Schroon. He moved to North Carolina in the spring of 2021 to be closer to his daughter Nioucha and his grandchildren. He will be missed by so many, as he touched our lives with his beautiful personality, humor, kindness and soul. Arrangements for a service will be decided in the near future and will be communicated through Facebook and this website.
