Obituary of Bobby Joe Hicks

Bobby "Joe" Hicks, 61, of Deep Gap, passed away on January 10, 2023, after a battle with cancer. Joe was born on April 2, 1961, in Watauga County to the late Andrew and Mary Hicks. Joe was a talented house painter and construction worker. He loved spending time outdoors with his family and friends and his beloved dog Marley. You rarely saw Joe without Marley being with him. He enjoyed canoeing and tubing on the river and watching old movies. There wasn't anything he couldn't build or tinker with and make better than the original, especially working on cars. He was an avid lover of just about any "rock" music you can think of and had an impressive collection of vinyl records. Joe left behind many people to cherish his memory. He is survived by his sister Edna (husband Kevin), brother Jimmy, brother-in-law Ted, nieces Dawn (daughters Abigail, Mallory, & Zoe) and Nancy (daughters Emma, Brittany, & Aubrey), nephews Ben (son AJ & daughter Ivy), Dale, & JC. (son Doyle), as well as a multitude of friends he considered family. He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Hicks, mother Mary Hicks, sister Shirley Miller, brother Johnny Hicks, and nephew Doyle Hicks. A memorial will be held for Joe when weather permits for us to celebrate his life outdoors like he enjoyed.
