Obituary of Sandra Jean Miller

Please share a memory of Sandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sandra Jean Miller, 62, of Deep Gap, passed away January 4th, at her home. She was born on April 10th, 1960, in Alexander County to Geneva Kerley and Carlos Spears. Sandy was married 30 years to her soul mate, Casey Miller, who recently passed on October 20th, 2022. She was a proud graduate of Lee's McCrae College. After retiring from Carroll Leather Goods, she found her passion working as a counselor/mentor at Watauga Opportunities. Her clients brought her tremendous joy every day. Sandy was strong in her Christian faith. She was very active and dedicated to her church, Stony Fork Baptist, where you could find her wearing many hats, always there to lend a helping hand. She loved riding shotgun beside her sweetheart in their purple VW rail buggy. The two of them took every opportunity they could to go out for an adventure. She loved singing, gardening, reading, yard sales, horses, honey bees, puppies and kittens. But most of all, she loved Jesus, Casey, her grandchildren and spending time with her sisters. She was a helper, a hard worker and she was dependable. Everywhere she went, her big smile and fun personality captured people's hearts and if you were not already, you would quickly call her "your friend". Although ALS took her body, it didn't take her heart or contagious smile. She showed love and gave love right until the very end. Sandy is survived by her 4 children; Chris Spears and wife, Amanda of Holden Beach, Misty Smithey of Wilkesboro, Jimmy Elliott of Deep Gap and Danyale Elliott of Mtn. City, TN. 9 grandchildren, Jacob Smithey, Victoria Elliott, Josiah Smithey, Elizabeth Elliott, Morgan Morefield, Jenny Smithey, Kimberly Elliott, Casey Morefield and Greyson Spears and lots of beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She had 4 siblings; Freda Cox and husband, Richard of Millers Creek, Lesia Sanwald and husband, Mark of Taylorsville, Carl Spears and wife, Angela of Statesville and Geneva (Smiley) Greene and husband, Mike of Deep Gap. She was preceded in death by her husband, Casey Miller, her dad, Carlos Spears and her mom and step-dad, Geneva and Tommy Reeves. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, January, 10th at 2:00pm at Stony Fork Baptist Church in Deep Gap. The family will receive family and friends at 1:00. Funeral services will be held by Austin & Barnes Funeral Home in Boone, NC . Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made to Amorem Hospice 902 Kirkwood Avenue, Lenior, NC 28645
