Terry N. Minter, 73, of Newland, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday AM, December 30, 2022 in Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC. He was born October 30, 1949 in Danville, Va. to the late Grover L. Minter and late Mary Smith Minter. Terry was a veteran from the Vietnam war era proudly serving his country in the United States Army. He worked as a truck driver for Overnite Transportation for approximately 30 years before taking early retirement in 2004 when he moved to Hampstead, NC. He enjoyed landscaping, gardening and yard work, refurbishing and sales of furniture "finds" via their small business venture "Treasures". Terry loved antique hunting, fishing, the beach, and best of all "combing" the beach for shells, sea glass, and shark's teeth. He was a great shark's tooth finder! Terry also loved sports especially UVA Cavalier's basketball and anything NY Yankees and was a collector of memorabilia for both. Mickey Mantle remained his favorite Yankee ball player. Terry is survived by his wife Janet L. Minter, sons Christopher N. Minter (Kara) of Newton, NC and Michael S. Minter (Tina) of Newland, NC and daughter Melissa M. Setzer (Jeff) of Hickory, NC. His stepsons are Daniel Lea, Joel Denson, Andrew Denson, and Kevin Denson. Surviving also are his sisters Brenda Cobb (Jim), Debbie Bryant, and Rhonda Adkins; brothers Dennis Minter (Jackie) and Kevin (Bo) Minter. He is predeceased by his brother Rodger L. Minter (Kitty). The grandchildren he loved so dearly and leaves behind are Will and Violet Minter, Justin Davis, Parker and Tripp Minter, Ashley Loggins, Julie, Abby, and Bella Ostwalt, Emma Setzer and step grandson Zayn Lea. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held Saturday January 7, 2023 at 2:00PM at Swicegood Funeral Home in Danville, Virginia. The family would like to thank the doctors, 2nd floor nursing staff, and chaplains of Watauga Medical Center. They provided kind, compassionate care to Terry and our family. We are truly grateful.
