Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Joann?
A: I met Joanne in 1982 after marrying Larry, who was her nephew on her husband, Archie’s side of the family .
Archie and Larry’s mother, Leatrice, were brother and sister.
I remember how genuine and kind Joanne was; Especially with young children. When I left my son, Seth in her care at daycare, I never felt worried, knowing he was with the finest lady I knew! She will always be remembered and known to me as a gift for young children. Thanks & hope to see you again Aunt Joanne❣️

Greg Lyons and I were best friends growing up and I would often "miss the bus" so I could go back to Greg's and play until my mother got off work. I really felt that Archie and Joann were like surrogate parents I spent so much time at their house. They always treated me as one of their own. Truly one of the best and will be missed.

There are so many amazing memories that I had with my grandma that I could share. One memory including how we would have the best long walks together, although I don’t remember what we talked about during them, I remember never being bored. I also remember how she had me so spoiled that she would separate the green Apple Jacks from the orange Apple Jacks simply just because I only wanted to eat the green. Overall, my favorite memory of her is her storytelling skills. She always had me intrigued with the stories she told such as “The Green Ribbon” story. I truly couldn’t of asked for a better grandma.

Dear family,
Bless your hearts! On behalf of the Mary Helen Cole family, you are all in our thoughts and prayers! Mama wanted to visit y’all at the Foley Center. We were so grateful to know Joann and your family growing up in Perkinsville community of Watauga County. I remember her giving me some socks, chewing gum, and a candy cane for Christmas when they lived in our basement apartment. After y’all moved behind us, Dolores, Patty and I would sleigh ride behind your house. What fond memories. Lean on the Lord and trust in Him. We share encouragement from the Word of God to trust in the Lord with all thine heart, lean not to thine own understanding, but in all thy ways acknowledge HIM and He will direct thy paths Proverbs 3:5-6. May the Holy Spirit comfort you.

Joann was such a special lady. I worked with her at the former Boone United Methodist Child Development Center, Greenway Baptist Child Development Center, and Blowing Rock School. She was the most patient and kind person I have ever met. I have so many beautiful memories of her. She was such a gentle soul and had a special way of interacting with children. Joann was an inspiration to so many. With her insight and experience she always made her classroom brighter. May her teachings be a mark of her legacy.
She talked about her family often and loved them dearly. Please accept my deepest condolences for your family's loss.
