Jerry was one of God's envoys here on earth. His spirit shined. My wife and I knew Jerry since 1999 when we moved to Blowing Rock. Jerry made a point to share a kind word, a smile, and a joke every time we saw him either at the Post Office, or while working along the roads for the city. Jerry was a jewel and will be sorely missed!

Aunt Louise,
I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of Jerry. He really was a people person. I always enjoyed conversing with him at our family reunions although it has been too many years. I hope to come down to the mountains to see everyone soon. Love you!

Louise...I'm glad to have be able to speak with you a few days ago. Jerry was so important to the Grove family, particularly to our mother, Retta Grove. Because I live on the other side of the country, Jerry was often the first person she would call when she had a problem. And because he knew how much she depended on him, he would often just stop by her house on Norwood Circle to see how she was doing and if she needed anything. Jerry always opened his mind to other peoples' needs, and opened his heart to each individual he knew. I was always deeply grateful that he was there for Mom. Now I'm eternally grateful for his friendship to us all. Much love from Retta's kids: George Grove & Joan Chater

I have lived in Blowing Rock for many years. My father LP Tate, was also from Southern Pines as well. Whenever I would see Jerry, he would always take a few minutes to talk to me about town life and always made me feel like I was a special member of our community. His personality was always warm and when I think of Jerry, I think of a man that lived his life in service to his community and all those that comprise it. I will very much miss our occasional encounters.

Jerry was always ready to help, with a shovel or folding laundry. He and Louise were the first couple on the floor at town dances and usually the last to leave still tapping their feet. Jerry kept up with a lot of little people before and after retirement doing lots of kid's stuff with a smile and a kind word. Blessings to all in the family. Kim Rogers

Everybody loved Jerry, just a really good person who served Blowing Rock for so many years. I'm lucky to have been a close neighbor & we loved talking about UNC basketball, & he loved country music & going dancing Saturday nights with his wonderful wife. He really enjoyed life, may God bless his family & all his great friends.
