Mary George Blair Youngblood passed away on July, 22, 2022 in Houston, TX at the age of 98. She was born in the historic 1844 Blair House in Boone, NC to Henry Neal Blair, Sr. and Martha Sligh Blair and was the last surviving family member to have been born and reared at the home place. Mary George attended Appalachian State Teachers College now Appalachian State University. In 1943 Mary George married U. Z. Youngblood, Jr. During their marriage they lived in McComb, MS, Towson, MD, Houston, TX, Corpus Christi, TX and Lafayette, LA. Following U.Z.'s death she moved back to Houston, TX. Throughout her long life, Mary George used her creativity in cooking, baking, sewing, decorating, gardening, knitting and jewelry design. For many years in Lafayette she also had a successful decorating business, Window House. In addition to her parents, Mary George was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, U.Z.; sisters Carolyn B. Johnson and Rebecca B. Penwell; brothers H. Neal Blair, Jr. and Palmer S. Blair, Sr. Mary George is survived by her daughter Suzanne Wilson and husband Craig, son George Youngblood and wife Brenda; and known as "MeMe" to grandchildren Blair Heilmann and husband John, Craig B. Wilson and wife Amy, Lisa Bourven and husband Jean-Marie and Leslie Herron and husband Mike; great-grandchildren Palmer Smith, Ian Smith, Elise Bourven, Colin Bourven and Ava Wilson. Services will be held in the Austin and Barnes Chapel Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 2 o'clock pm with Reverend Mike Townsend officiating with interment to follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens. Memorials may be made to Digital Watauga, Watauga Historical Society, P.O. Box 3453, Boone, NC 28607. Services are entrusted to Austin and Barnes Funeral Home and Crematory Services.
