My dearest Kate, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You and Pat made such a wonderful couple and I am glad you found each other so that two such well deserving people could enjoy love and life together. Kate, you are a generous, selfless and caring person that I have been honored to call a friend as well as co-worker, and later my Director of Nursing. May God be with you and your family, Willa Brown-Cecil

My husband Sam and I just saw that Pat passed. We knew him because he would stop by our Mountain Artifacts art show/sale, and bring his beautiful carvings. He got to be a regular, and would stop by and chat. After meeting him there, we all realized we share a love of Watauga Lake, and he started to stop by in his amazing, hand-built boat. We missed seeing him last year. So very sorry for your loss. We didn't know Pat well, but he touched us, and we will miss his smiling face and amazing stories.

It's hard to believe Pat is no longer in my world. He and my sister, Barbara, married when I was a child. He was present for many of my major life events -- introducing me to my first pizza, teaching me to appreciate all art, helping me move in to my first new home, and sitting with me while Barbara passed away. Thank you Pat.
Kate, I appreciate the opportunity to have been at your wedding to Pat and am happy that you had many wonderful years together.

I met Pat and his first wife, Barbara, through Barbara’s sister, Sara, who graciously included me in fellowship and visits to both of their homes in Maryland and NC. Both Pat and Barbara hold a special place in my memory and heart. I will always remember Pat and his hand-sculpted life-like duck decoys. I had never seen anything so impressive. I recall also his other art, love of the outdoors and his great cooking which I had the opportunity to enjoy on a couple of visits to their homes. I am thankful to have been able to know Barbara as well. She was a very special person who gifted me with a beautiful tablecloth for my home, hand painted notes and encouraging words that I still treasure. I will never forget her sweet smile and cheerful attitude when visiting her during some of her last days struggle with cancer.
Both of their lives were an inspiration.
Though I have never had the pleasure of meeting Kate, she remains in my thoughts and prayers, especially during this time; and my condolences and prayers go out to the entire family as well.

Our sincerest condolences to Kate and family. I was privileged to call Pat family for most of my life. When he married Barbara he became my brother-in-law and part of our family. They were young, gorgeous and lively. I lived with them before I married. My children grew up calling him Uncle. We enjoyed being with him through his many adventures @NASA and with his family. Pat had a big family but Barbara had bigger. We all lived near each other and all our homes became one as we gathered for one celebration after another. There was only one Chef and that being Pat. Aweee Pat had many virtues to be admired and we did.
We still grieve over the lose of Barbara and now Pat. We were blessed to know Kate and have her accept us as family. Pat was blessed to have found Kate to love, support and care for him. Our prayers of comfort for the family.
Sara, Gary, Chris&Tammy, Jon &Emily and all our family.

I got to know Pat when his first wife, Barbara, was dying. He was such an accomplished and talented person and a good friend. He was generous with his talents and his time: he helped rebuild things for us that had broken and remodel parts of our house when asked. I admired his bird carvings as did so many. I am sad to know he no longer walks this world and I send my deepest condolences to Kate.
