Obituary of Mary Lou Matheson

Mary Lou Ward Matheson, age 85, of Sugar Grove, passed away Monday morning, December 13, 2021 at Watauga Medical Center. Born November 13, 1936 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late Grady and Alma Tester Ward. Mary was a born again Christian; the most special person – always giving to one family member or another - the most selfless person ever known. And, she worked at IRC for thirty years. She is survived by four daughters, Phyllis Mast (Manley) of Boone, Myra Miller (Ronnie) of West Jefferson, Cathy McDonald (Bobby) and Lisa Matheson all of Sugar Grove, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. We were very blessed to have her as our mom – she was loved by and she adored her four daughters and all her grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Betty Ward Marshall (Gerald) of Sugar Grove. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Junior Matheson and by her brother, Albert Ward. Services for Mary Lou Ward Matheson will be private.
