Obituary of Samuel J. Hicks

Samuel Jesse Hicks, age 72, of Flat Springs Road, Elk Park, passed away Saturday morning, June 7, 2014 at his home. Born Sept. 6, 1941 in Watauga County, he was a son of General Captain Hicks and Viola Stines Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a member of Beech Valley Baptist Church and served on the committee of the Beech Creek Cemetery. He retired from the housekeeping department at ASU. Love of family was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed the simple pleasures any outdoor activities, especially cutting and splitting firewood. Mr. Hicks is survived by one daughter, Jessica Hicks Trivett and husband, Jeffrey; one son, Lynn Hicks and wife, Deanna; and two grandchildren, Kyle and Sonya Hicks, all of Elk Park; sister, Loma Burton of York, SC; sister-in-law, Linda Harmon of Flat Springs; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eddie and Brenda Reece of Flat Springs, and Ronnie and Tammie Reece, of Butler, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Reece Hicks, infant brother, Captain Harvey Hicks; and brother-in-law, Clinard Harmon. Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning, June 9th, at 11:30 at the Beech Valley Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Lynn Hicks, Rev. Chad Cole and Rev. Bill Warren. The family will receive friends Monday morning from 10 until 11:30, prior to services, at Beech Valley Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Beech Creek Cemetery.
