Don Livingston posted a condolence
Thursday, March 24, 2022
This is Don Livingston. I was Googling to see if I could find Sam and Anita, and was saddened to see Sam had passed. I knew Sam from Marble Collegiate Church. He was a mentor to me and a caring friend. I wish I had stayed in touch. Time just seems to fly by, and then it's too late. My condolences and a hug to Anita. As Arthur Caliandro would say "God Bless." Sam was a good person.

We were very sorry to learn of Sam's passing. Over the past two years, we both had the privilege and blessing of talking with him often by phone concerning my (David) health problems. I will always treasure the times that Sam came to the Chandler homeplace to visit during summer vacations. We had a lot fun. We will certainly miss him and pray for Anita, the family and His High Places Ministry. Rest In Peace.

Douglas and I have fond memories of Uncle Sam & Anita coming to Nashville to attend the Four Square conferences. Our time spent with them always ended with Uncle Sam asking what he could pray about for us. We will always remember him for his sweet humble spirit.

I am sorry for your loss. I met Sam when he joined us in either the fourth or fifth grade at Philadelphus Elementary School. We quickly became friends. I remember playing chase with our school mates. We found that Delores and Judy were fast runners. We played basketball on the dirt basketball court. We built a fort from fallen debris that withstood the forces of Hurricane Hazel. We flattened pennies on the railroad track. We moved on to Red Springs High School and became members of the Class of 1963. Sam was by far the best student of the class. Sam hit the books hard and his grades showed his efforts, not so much so for me. Being classmates for Sam and myself ended at RSHS. Sam attended UNC and received a BA degree before advancing to Divinity School at Duke. I went to NCSU and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. We later discussed how challenged we felt about our college academic experiences at major universities. It was another common experience for Sam and myself. Sam and I kept in touch occasionally, but basically our lives parted in 1963. We were good friends during our younger years. Celebrate the times with Sam and relish the experience.
