Betsy was my mentor in college. She took me under her wings and allowed me to volunteer with her at the Watagua County jail teaching creative writing. I loved my time with her. We would go and then come back and sit and chat for hours. I loved hearing her stories and sharing my own. I remember some words of wisdom she told me,” Live a life so full that when you are old, you will have great memories to look back on.” Those words inspired me to move to across the world, take trips I never dreamed of, and make the best memories I could. I will forever be grateful of the life she lived and the people she cared for. Because I was one of them and I’m a much better person because of Betsy.

A number of years ago I was with my family at the beach and got word that Betsy had decided to parasail with some of the younger gals in her women’s group that were enjoying beach time together. As soon as I heard I told my daughters “I want to parasail like Betsy did. She’s 20 years older than me and if she can, I can”
So we women headed off with my oldest grand daughter who may have been around 10 years old then, and up when flew! I doubled with little Maggie. What a great memory thanks to my dear fun loving
friend Betsy. Maggie just married and her recessional was “Ill Fly Away”, just as was Betsy’s today. So much gratitude for Betsy in my life! Meg Eggleston

I am so sorry for your loss. Betsy was a volunteer to our detention center in Boone. I have fond memories of her and was grateful that she attempted to improve lives of individuals that she and other ladies from saint Luke’s worked with in the detention center.

I loved to see Betsy come in to the detention center!!! She was always happy and fun. I ask her once what was the difference between Baptist and the Episcopal Church and she replied “ Somewhere between heaven and hell,” we both had a good laugh at her reply!!! You can certainly be proud of your mom, she was well loved and appreciated
