Obituary of Jimmy David Ulrick

James David (Jim) Ulrick passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 30, 2021 at his home in Avery County, North Carolina. He had battled many health issues in his later years, but chose to take rest on his terms at his happy place, surrounded by a strong support network. Jim had a 30-year career in the insurance industry where he used his psychology degree to evaluate the needs of his customers and to customize services to the individual. Jim loved being outside and active and he never stepped back from a challenge. He was an avid tennis, table tennis and pickleball player and was active in senior leagues in Avery and Chatham Counties. He loved camping, hiking and boating and shared those adventures with his wife Sue and valued friend JB. Jim was born in 1943 in Washington, DC, the son of Grace and Joseph Ulrick. He is survived by his wife Sue, sister Joann, daughters Christian (Gary)Chavez and Nicole Ulrick, stepdaughters Bonnie Medlin, Tracey Wheeler and Stephanie (Michael) Taylor, six grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Memorial services will be conducted Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Linville Land Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, CORA Food Pantry in Chapel Hill or the Seymour Senior Center in Chapel Hill.
