So sorry for your loss. I am a native of Watauga County with family lines going back to the founding of the town of Boone and though I no longer live there, I am just heartbroken for the loss of these two young men. I have a son who is Logan's age and my heart breaks for his family for both family's. There is no loss so great as that of one's child. To lose your partner in life is a deeply felt pain as well. For Chris's wife and for his girls, I am so sorry. I know the whole town mourns for these two young men. My family and I send our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to these families for the sacrifice they have made. I am a nurse and work closely with law enforcement in the ER quite often and the jobs that are expected of our public servants is a heavy burden that becomes more and more perilous as every year goes by. May God bless your family and bring comfort during this difficult time. Thank you Chris for your sacrifice.........

Thoughts and prayers for the family and friends of Chris. As I was traveling from Elizabethton to Johnson City, the entourage passed me on their way to JC Med Ctr and as I saw the firemen and officers throughout our city displaying their respects, i got chills; knowing something had happened. Shortly there after I learned he had passed and they were coming to pick him up and take him home. My heart is heavy for your loss. Although our policemen, firemen, and first responders know the danger of their jobs, they bravely go out to serve and protect our communities; never knowing that it may be their last day in this life.

I did not know Chris, and I do not live in Watauga County, but his service and sacrifice extended further than those borders and to those who did not know him. Heroes serve those they never know or meet. Chris was clearly a hero. He served us and protected us all with his actions, even making the ultimate sacrifice in doing so. My children went to school with Sgt, Ward. I understand how difficult this time must be for all of his precious family. I feel the need to share with you a truly touching personal story of this wonderful young man. I lost my husband of 38 years very suddenly last August. He was working in my mother's yard and suffered a massive heart attack. My adult son happened upon the scene as the paramedics were attempting CPR. Sgt. Ward was on scene that day and saw my son as he rounded the house and made a headlong run toward his father. Sgt. Ward grabbed him and quietly told him that he didn't need to see that and led him back around the house into the driveway where he sat and consoled my son until the ambulance left. That one gesture meant the world to my son and to me. That someone took the time and patience to guide him away from that terrible scene and sit with him to calm him down. We are heartbroken that this wonderful man has been taken from this world, but please be aware that he touched lives that you may not even be aware of and that is a great legacy. We will never forget him and hope his family finds more great things to remember in order to ease the pain they are feeling today.

So sorry to hear of the loss . I know all we’re proud that Christopher served his civil duty. As a Marine Mom there is no prouder moment when your son serves the country to fight against our freedoms. I miss seeing all that I grew up with in Watauga county.
