I got to know Charlie more than 55 years ago when we were both students at ETSU and in Professor Farnsworth's economics class (4:30-6pm on TT). Sometimes it was difficult for us to stay awake in that class. It was coincidental that we both came to teach at Appalachian State. We occasionally talked about being students at ETSU. He was a gentleman and a friend and I am very sorry to hear of his death. Blessings to his family and may God comfort each of you in your loss.

Charlie and I were long time friends and colleagues in the Walker College of Business. Charlie was one of key faculty members in the development of the new business school, starting in 1971. He deserves much credit for the role he played.

Daphne and family, We will never forget all the wonderful memories we have of Charlie. I can just see him walking into the house wearing a tee shirt with suspenders carrying an arm full of vegetables. I can picture him at the card table with a soft drink or cup of coffee, eating a piece of cake, or driving his pickup truck. He was so proud of his family and loved all of you so much!! We are so thankful for all the times we had with him!! RIP Charlie! We love you Doug and Angie

Daphne, The sad news of the passing of Charlie has come off the mountaintop to the flatland. Rosanne and I are saddened by this news and very thankful that we knew this gentleman— a GREAT teacher beloved by his students and a GREAT colleague to all those in the Department of Accounting. I am thankful I knew and worked with Charlie and I cherish the memories of those days in the Walker College of Business. I do not know how all this works, but I feel that today, Charlie and Gene Butts went fishing together. Daphne, you are and you will remain in our thoughts and prayers in a special way at this difficult time. We care about you!
