For Nadine, Joyce, Janice, LD, and Terry, I’ll never forget summer time spent with y’all and playing on the farm and the hills there. Frances and Uncle Doughton were such great parents to feed another mouth at their table for what seemed like weeks. Your mother had such a steadfast grace about her with a positive outlook. She was always a joy to be around. We loved our aunt and will miss her greatly. Sorry I can’t come due to my Covid case but I hope to get there by spring to pay my respects. Love you all.

This week we lost the matriarch of a close knit family in the beautiful mountains of Sugar Grove NC. While I only got to see Granny for a couple hours every Christmas for the last 20 years, her strong (stubborn) and sweet spirit were ever present. She and my husband shared a passion for both the Tar Heels and the Braves I'll never fully understand and she was forever proud he was a Carolina grad. Early on I wondered if I was welcomed to the family because I was indoctrinated as a Tar Heel (which I was fine with btw)...
I have felt incredibly fortunate to gather with her offspring over the years whether at her house, then the family got too big and we would meet at the firehouse and then finally a church banquet hall. My extended family is so spread out across the country on both sides we don't have large extended gatherings as often so the annual holiday dinner is a treat to be part of and know that your 2nd, 3rd or maybe it's 2nd-once-removed cousin is family as much as a first cousin and I was welcomed in with the rest of the 'outlaws'. I loved every minute of it.
Granny was stubborn in a quiet way. She didn't tell you 'no' she just did her own thing. She was known for not informing her adult children when her car was packed and ready to go to her winter home in Florida and would drive herself there well past the age they were comfortable with it... and tell them once she arrived safely! That quiet stubborn my-way-IS-the-right-way was definitely passed along to a few of her kids and grandkids and, yes, great-grands and is alive and well in my house.
She was healthy until the last few months and the story is she was hanging laundry outside when she fell and broke her first hip-- did I mention she was 95 and hanging laundry on her hillside home! While she tested positive for COVID several times this fall, she never even had a sniffle-- we weren't really surprised because she's too stubborn for that. She had a strong heart, mind and body and she worked hard her whole life for her family. I believe they have made her real proud and she was ready to move on.
She was an angel on earth and I'm sure she'll keep a few others in line in her quiet way up in heaven. Miss you already, Granny!
Hugs to the whole family,
Suzette (& Michael, Rachel and Daniel)

Len, Brian and families, I am saddened to learn of such a wonderful woman's passing. No doubt Heaven is an even better place today. At times like these I remember the Hoppers and their song IT'S SHOUT'N TIME IN HEAVEN. Please know you all are in my prayers.

What a wonderful strong independent woman she was! last time I saw her we talked about her garden and I was telling her how deer eat up a garden down our way and she said I don't have a problem. She had strung blinking Christmas lights all around the garden and plugged them in when she went to bed and turned them off when she got up. I bet I have told that story 100 times to my friends. of course we talked about her BRAVES and how frustrated she was with them. it was just a special time with her. there are few people in this world that can match up to her and the type person she was. if people in the world had her character and work ethic what a wonderful thing that would be. She was without a doubt my favorite. She will be missed but at the same time what a life.
Love, Raymond Greene

I’m so sorry for your loss. Praying the God of all comfort helps you at this difficult time.
(2 Corinthians 1:3,4 & Psalms 83:18). Jesus told us to pray for God’s Kingdom because the Bible promises it will do away with death. (Revelation 21:4,5 & Daniel 2:44).
