I was so sad to hear of Howard’s passing. We worked together as Guardians Ad Litem for many years. He would never give up on a child and always fought for them, even when others disagreed. He was a wonderful man, and I will miss him. Ellen LaMartina

Please accept my deepest sympathies and condolences in Howard's passing. I knew Howard through my work with the NC Guardian ad Litem Program in Watauga County where Howard served as a GAL in Watauga for 22 years. Howard was a determined, steadfast, and well-respected GAL advocate for vulnerable abused, neglected, and dependent children. The children Howard served as a Guardian ad Litem for knew that Howard was always in their corner advocating for their best interests and never accepting the status quo. Howard knew to be effective he had to be the squeaky wheel and he never wavered in his consistent, continuous, and effective follow-up with other case involved professionals to get children's needs met. I will always hold Howard in highest esteem. I miss his dry sense of humor and genuine smile. Please take comfort in knowing that Howard will always be remembered as a legend in the Watauga County GAL Program. All the best, Valerie Daniels
