Charles Hurd 'Chuck' Davis, Jr., of Morningside Circle, Blowing Rock, died Monday evening, May 12, 2008 at his home. He was born April 1, 1926 in Winston Salem to the late Charles Hurd Davis, Sr. and Emma McKenzie Davis. Mr. Davis was a member of Middle Fork Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute with a degree in civil engineering and completed his graduate work at Yale University in planning and development. Chuck owned and operated Atlantic Plan Engineering in Hickory and was a charter member of the Lake Norman Yacht Club. He served in the US Army during WWII.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Greene Davis; one son, Nathan Lannine Davis and wife Jessica of Charlotte; four daughters, Rebecca Davis of Burbank, CA, Lynn Hobbit and husband Forrest of Richmond, VA., Suzanne Davis-Weatherhill and husband Jim of Grand Canyon, AZ, and Georgia Brown and husband David of Richmond, VA; one step-son Jonathan Ward and wife Stephanie of Trade, TN. and one step-daughter, Shannon Myers of Fallon, NV; five grandchildren, Samantha Giles, Elizabeth Grace Myers, Jeffrey Giles, Brayden Myers and Stryker Ward.; and one brother, Dr. John Davis of Charles Town, W. VA.
In addition to his parents, Charles Hurd Davis, Sr. and Emma McKenzie Davis, he was preceded in death by one brother Dr. Richard Davis.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist Church in Blowing Rock, officiated by Rev. George Patton and Rev. Rhonda Gailes. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock at the church.
