I agree with Ingrid Hayes! Such a kind guy---always. Even in high school when he was surprised I read Garfield (he thought it was juvenile and didn't follow it), he didn't tease me about my escapist cartoon reading. Years later he had me, Scott Thomas, and Stephen Phillips spit-taking our drinks when he mentioned the hair on his head was starting instead to just grow out of his ears.... Oh, and when I crocheted the world's ugliest vest for him, he said thank you and was SO kind.
He made me a smarter, kinder person from 7th grade on. I will think of him often and both smile and cry, and that's ok. --Stanna Simandle Reinke

My thoughts go out to Kurt's family. I will miss our chats. He was a deeply thoughtful and intelligent man. He spoke German with me which I truly appreciated. He spoke my native language well and shared some interesting stories about his time in Berlin. The shock of his passing was felt throughout this community and he will be missed.

I'm so sorry we've lost Kurt, but so glad to have had the chance to know and appreciate him. He was such a kind, giving soul who treasured friends and family with open warmth and generosity. I enjoyed many a lunch with him, often with another friend he'd thought to include. He always left a big tip to better support the server. We had many enjoyable telephone conversations over the years as well, many of them demonstrating his love of the Dolphins and impatience with New England's routine domination of the division. He always expressed his pleasure in his family, keeping me up to date on the doings of his siblings, their children, and his mother, among others. He'd dependably update me about the many friends with whom he maintained contact. He clearly valued you all. My heartfelt condolences to all who knew him; he is sorely missed.

Kurt loved us. Really, and quite unconditionally, he loved us all. He was never judgmental toward or angry with anyone. He loved all of us, always, without question. He was unlike anyone else I have ever known in that respect.
He wanted us to be happy, and it truly made him happy when we were. Remembering this honors him.
Going to the top of the hill every time now, for you my friend.
All my love to Kurt’s mother and brothers, and to his large, wonderful family.
