My first memory was seeing Cheri very pregnant with her Daughter. It seemed like she was pregnant forever! I remember her struggling to get her very pregnant self out of her Gold Volvo Wagon picking up her boys at Harrisburg Elementary. We were blessed when Cheri and Kirby later bought the house next door to us! Our children grew up together. Patrick and Jamie were great buddies as they navigated middle and high school. There are so many funny stories about those two! Cheri and I spent many hours trying to figure what they were up to! Joe, the little brother, was the one they left behind! A vocal, unique kid. He still amazes me with his talent. Mary Faith the little one and a Girl! She was Jamie’s side kick! Learning important things like shaving your legs, picking the proper outfit and lipstick that doesn’t come off when you kiss! This family is so very special to us and especially Cheri the true light of these folks. Taken too soon, Cheri will always have a special place in the Elders family hearts! Love you and will miss you! The Elder Family

My very first contact with Cheri was in 1987 when we began attending Advent Lutheran. She spoke to me out in the parking lot and was so friendly that she quickly persuaded me to get involved in the Social Ministry Board, which sponsored outreach projects such as CROP Walk and making egg salad sandwiches for the homeless. A few years later, I was thrilled when she moved into the house two doors up from mine! I was invited to countless parties at her house, and I used to joke that, if I saw 17 cars or more there, she was just feeding one of her kids' soccer teams - again. Throughout the years she remained a good friend and neighbor, and after she moved to Blowing Rock we met there a couple of times in the summer. Like everyone else who knew her, I loved Cheri. She will be deeply missed.
