Max was a true Gentleman. I knew him for nearly 25 years. He was a very wise person who was always very respectful and appreciative of others. After reading his story of how he grew up it all makes sense. He enjoyed the knowledge of academics as an accomplished teacher and still as he said understood from his formative years life's value of hardwork. We are all fortunate to have known Max. He certainly loved his wife Ellen and his children as he spoke about them often. God Bless You Max for a life well lived. And may God bring love and comfort to your family now and in the days ahead.

Ellen, so sorry to hear of Max’s passing. I met him at NC State. I was his secretary in Food Science. And then realized you were my 3rd grade teacher. He sure was the life of a party or one of the many gatherings in Schaub. Prayers with you and the family. Lisa Gordon

Max was a man of many parts; apparently Ellen recognized this right away. They were an exemplary couple. The bond between them was almost palpable. Though we were for many years neighbors and shared West Tennessee as a childhood home, I never knew, past food science, tennis, and pitching washers, his many facets. I wish Ellen and his family comfort in their loss, and blessings in their memories.

My Uncle Max entertained our family with his energy, wit and various unique involvements. I remember when he brought a possum on one of their visits to Yorkville. He claimed it was a registered possum. Just before I went away to college, tongue in cheek, he advised me to be sure and tell everyone how much money my daddy had and in Chemistry Lab, to turn over a beaker of sulfuric acid to make sure the other students would give me enough room to work. He always had an interest in and kept up with Yorkville and its people. He will be greatly missed but our memories will warm our hearts.

Ellen, it broke my heart when I learned today that Max had passed away. He was a dear friend and he always stayed in touch with all his schoolmates. I will sorely miss all the phone conversations we had through the years. I am sure he put up a good fight to live even though you had told me he had a lot of problems. My condolences to you and the family. May he RIP.

Dear Ellen and family,
. I always felt so loved by Max and I know he loved my daughter Sarah and enjoyed talking to her about her years as a Park Scholar at NCSU. I so value the years we spent attending Saltshaker Dinners and Rumple Church Fellowship Events and creating and serving our Youth at Rumple by working together on the establishment of the James G. Stuart Scholarship Program.
Dear Max will always hold a special place in my heart.
Love to you Ellen and blessings during this time of such a very big loss!!
