How sad to learn of Doug's passing. He and I grew up in 1st Baptist Church together, went to church camp at Fort Caswell, sang in the choir, enjoyed sledding with neighborhood kids and just about anything else available to kids our age.
I'd lost touch with Doug but glad to learn of his successes in life. My condolences to his family & friends.

Doug and I were friends since elementary school. He was clearly one of the good guys that I will always remember. Our lives took us to opposite ends of NC but I am grateful we met along the way.

I just recently learned of Doug's passing. I was in shock and very saddened. Doug and I were a couple during our Junior and Senior and first year of college years. He was a great person with a wonderful heart and loving soul. He and I had many memories together during our school years. We sang a duet together in our high school production of The Sound of Music as well as danced the waltz in one of the other scenes. We also sang a duet in his mother's Eastern Star Ceremony So many great memories... such a great man... My heart goes out to the family in your great loss.

I just learned from a friend of Doug's passing. He and I were neighbors and best childhood friends in the 50's & 60's; Freda can vouch for that. Those limes we lived in Sanford and especially on Chisholm Street were very special to all. That street drew many playmates from the surrounding area. Family cookouts, games played in our yards and on the playground at St. Clair School, basketball, football, and baseball games, sledding down Chisholm during the winter snows--so many great memories and friendshps. The joys we experienced there as children in those formative years and the freedom and saftety we felt during that era and in that special location would be hard to duplicate now.
I consider those times and the relationships we enjoyed during those years as being a true blessing from God. I am thankful to God for them. Friends are a blessing from God and I thank God for the frienship I enjoyed with Doug. My condolences to family members.
Grace and Peace to all from Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior,
Bobby Watson

Doug was my landlord when i first moved to the mountains in the late 1980’s. Having always been a “city-girl” i rented his 100 year old mountain house in Creston and he patiently helped me make the transformation to mountain living! Teaching me about mountain folk, heating with wood and how to thaw out the water lines from the spring when they froze in winter! I couldn’t have asked for a kinder, more helpful, laid-back or honest landlord and friend!! <3 Thank you Doug for all the lessons, and Lynn for all your gentleness and support when i was grieving. Blessings and healing for your family, tara

Doug Gordon was a man who loved the simple life. He seemed to be happiest on his farm just enjoying the outdoors, and performing the chores related to the farm.
Always non-judgemental, to the point he helped you have a different view of people and events.
There were no airs about Doug, no materialistic side, and I never heard him utter a demeaning word.
I worked with Doug and he was my friend. As a workmate, he always showed patience and the willingness to teach and listen.
As a friend he came to my aid several times and I knew that he always would if I had a need.
Doug was a special human being and will be sorely missed. But, I can say without a doubt, some of the values and opinions we discussed have stuck with me. I go forward in this world, a more understanding and peaceful person because of him.
May he be at peace-Janice Donovan
