I have a story to share...Have any of you ever heard Dean Church raise his voice? Well I Did.... Through the years, being family friends, I have lived next door to Betty twice so this was very unusual to have a fun second chance... This happened a long time ago on Queen Street. As I recall, Jason was only about age 3 or 4. I was outside and heard this Big yell from Dean! I went running over thinking something was terribly wrong... Turns out Dean was washing his motor cycle in the yard and little Jason was helping his Daddy on the other side of the bike by washing his newly chromed gas tank...with a scratchy Brillo pad!! Imagine Dean's horror!...? Guess any of us would have at least yelled at the shock of that sight... and Yelled Loud!
We will all miss Dean so very much and recall so many fun stories about him actually telling the funniest ones! This was a heart breaker loss for sure! I think of him each time I need a car repair or see someone fishing, or better yet entertaining a crowd with a very fun story. I still say that Betty should write a book...He never did lose his sense of humor or that special knack of creating a crazy story for Betty to pass on...
No one is more honorable, Dean or Betty! I think of each of them with a smile! ... and Very loving thoughts!

So sadden to learn of Dean's passing. Dean was a special friend to Joe and such a joy to be around. Many special memories over the years. He always had that coffee mug with him. Unless he removed it recently, he was still carrying a picture of our daughter when she was in elem. School. Prayers for Betty and the family. He will most definitely be missed. Joe and Wanda Taylor

When it came to cars, we believe Dean was a magician who could fix anything. He single-handedly kept our autos running. We also shared delight with him in the Carolina Tar Heels, especially during March Madness. He always had a twinkle in his eye when he talked about fishing and hooking the big one. And he really enjoyed a good fish dinner at Mike's Inland Seafood. Dean and Betty are among our dearest friends.
Love and sympathy to Betty and family for your loss,
Larry & Ann Keeter

Dean was a great human being. I will always remember my best childhood years with the Church Family (Dean, Betty and my friend Jason). Playing Baseball, going fishing, and listening to Dean´s jokes are moments that I will never forget. On behalf of my parents Elizabeth and Victor, my wife Maritza and my daughters Ana and Mariana, I send condolences to the Church Family. We pray for Dean´s soul.

We are so sad. Dean was an awesome neighbor and friend. He was a kind man who helped us in so many ways. There were times we would hear a motor outside our windows and there was Dean, mowing our lawn for us. He would leave buckets of blackberries on our porch. He repaired our cars. His eyes twinkled and his smile was precious. I love the photo of him holding the fish he caught. That is how I will always remember him. We pray that you will find comfort in memories of him.
Love,
Rodney and Jana Duke

I am so sorry to hear about Dean. I remember him when he was young and drove a 55 black Chevrolet. And remember him riding his motorcycle with some friends from IRC. Dean was always nice to me and he worked at the Shop when I worked at NCDOT. Glenn and I thought a lot of him and he was always fun. He loved to get into the lunch boxes of his co-workers and share their food with himself.. I had not seen Dean in many years after retiring but I remember him fondly. His dear Mother was in the hospital one time when Mother was there and she was so sweet. My condolence to Betty and his family. Love and prayers, Glenn and Donna Henson Johnson-Hicks

Dean was one of the best friends I have had throughout my entire life. We rode motorcycles together for approximately 30 years. He loved to race and each time we rode our motorcycles the race was on. We ran and hid from the law too many times to remember. I always missed having him as a riding partner when he quit riding his motorcycle. Dean never met a stranger and was always the life of the riding trip. He also enjoyed dirt track go-kart racing. . I will always cherish the good times and memories of Dean.
